Armyman held for molestation attempt


BANGALORE: An Army personnel was arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to molest a 21-year-old girl near Ejipura under Vivek Nagar police limits.

Police said that the victim, a native of Odisha, had come to the City a few years ago and was attending an air hostess training course.

On Wednesday, at around 5 pm, the victim along with her friend alighted from a bus near Ejipura. Durga Rao, 35, a Subedar at ASC Centre near Ejipura, who was standing near the bus stop, followed them and passed lewd comments. After some distance, Rao allegedly attempted to molest the girl. The victim resisted and raised an alarm, while her friend, clicked a few photographs of Rao, police said.

“Meantime, the public gathered and tried to assault Rao, but he freed himself and fled. The victim called her brother and told him about the incident. They approached the Vivek Nagar police station and lodged a complaint. The police visited the spot and enquired with a few shopkeepers and roadside vendors for information about Durga Rao,” the police said.

The police approached the officials at the ASC Centre and explained to them about the incident. The police were allowed to take the accused from the Centre, where he was hiding.

“The police have registered a case against him under Sections 354 (A) and 341. The accused is currently in judicial custody and further investigation is on,” the police said.
