Army pays homage to soldier martyred in cross border firing in Jammu

Military personnel on Wenesday paid homage to soldier (Late) NK Mong Chon P who was martyred in ceasefire violation by Pakistan at Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor sector on Tuesday.

Many of the high ranking officers of the Indian army attended the wreath laying ceremony of the martyred soldier.

Major General AK Dhar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 10 Division said, "There has been a kind of an infiltration attempt which was thwarted and in the bargain this boy has lost his life. He was a brave soldier but it in this kind of firefight one should be prepared to lay down his life.

The operation is still on we are still searching for militants; we have to see how many can we get hold of.

Putting mines and then trying to fire simultaneously is their strategy. That area is across the river and it's such a thick jungle area that you cannot really see anything more than three to four yards. So we are facing this kind of problem in searching through the militants, he added.

On Tuesday, one army soldier was killed in yet another ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Akhnoor area of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier on Sunday, Pakistani troops had violated ceasefire by firing on an outpost along the international border in RS Pura sector of Jammu district.

The firing had started at around 1am in the night and lasted till morning 5.30am. Pakistan had targeted an Indian post in the same area on July 16 as well wherein an Indian soldier died and three others were injured.

The residents living along Indo-Pak Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir had complained of facing hardships due to cross border shelling.
