Army-civilian standoff reaches new heights in Hyderabad

The Army-civilian standoff over blockade of roads in the Cantonment area reached a new flashpoint on Saturday as defence personnel started erecting iron gates on the Robert Road - R.K.Puram stretch.

At around 2 p.m., Army jawans descended on the site and started the welding work pertaining to the construction of the gate amidst protest from the local residents.

Case pending in HC
Presently, the Army blockade issue is pending in the High Court following the filing of a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) by a resident of Secunderabad.

Even though this action of the Army did not disrupt the vehicular traffic movement, the local residents are expecting the blockade anytime soon.

“When the issue is in court, how can they erect the gates. They had also been constructing pillars since past two weeks. This only shows the Army authorities intention to block traffic,” said Pramod Sharma, president, Shakti Nagar Colony.

According to the residents of Gandhi Nagar, Asha Colony and surrounding localities, they will have to take a detour of more than 10 km, if they have to reach the Paradise Junction.
