Displaying placards and festoons inscribed 'Remove AFSPA,' 'Save Sharmila,' the demonstrators also raised slogans demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Pandemonium erupted at the site when police personnel tried to seize the festoons from the agitating womenfolk.
The protestors put up stiff resistance against the police personnel's attempt to snatch the festoons.
Some of the women protestors who were put up inside a police vehicle by City Police Station personnel were rescued by their fellow protestors from the police vehicle.
Later, RK Radhyasana Devi, one of the protestors speaking to media persons highlighted that the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had assured the people of the State to replace AFS-PA, 1958 with a more hum- ane Act while handing over the historic Kangla to the peo-ple on November 20, 2004 .
She pointed out that the promise Dr Manmohan Singh made a decade back has not been translated into action till now.
As such, the Prime Minister, who is not capable of translating his own promise to the people into action should resign, she demanded.
Strongly demanding that the AFSPA, 1958 should be repealed from the State, Radhyasana further asserted that the movement of Meira Paibi organisations would go on until the Act is scrapped from the State.
Mention may be made that some years back Manipuri womenfolk staged nude protest at the same location to denounce AFSPA in the aftermath of alleged extra-judicial killing of Thangjam Manorama Devi by Assam Rifles troopers.
