Civilians protest against Army 'assault' in Arunachal

ITANAGAR: Locals and students of Longding came out in large numbers on Thursday to protest against the attack on five civilians by Army personnel on Monday.

A leader of Longding District Students' Union (LDSU) said the victims, who were residents of Chanu village, were mercilessly beaten up by Rajput Regiment personnel on July 21.

On July 14, the security forces were engaged in an encounter with a faction of NSCN at Chanu village, following which they attacked the villagers on Monday, the student leader said.

One of the injured, Jyakap Rangkham, was admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, in a critical condition.

The protestors condemned the Army's action.
