5 Naval officers face disciplinary action in ship fire

New Delhi: Six navy personnel, including five officers, are facing disciplinary action after they were found culpable by a board of inquiry for a fire on board aircraft carrier INS Virat in September last year, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

“Disciplinary action is being taken against five officers and one sailor found culpable by a BoI into the fire incident on INS Virat,” defence minister Arun Jaitley said.

INS Virat is over 50 years old and has undergone several modifications.

Jaitley added that action was also being taken against three officers and four sailors for a fire on board fast patrol vehicle INS Tarasa last July.
